MARYSVILLE

On the week-end I took a drive to a little town, long been famous for its beauty, nestled in the Murrindindi Shire called Marysville.

This beautiful part of Victoria is in full recovery mode after the devastating Black Saturday bush fires.

Perhaps nothing symbolises this more than Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden.

 BRUNO

Bruno grew up in South America and then travelled extensively throughout the world, sketching faces and scenes as he went. These later became his inspiration for paintings and sculptures that have now found residence in his gallery and rain forest garden in Marysville, creating a magical, permanent attraction.

The bush fires destroyed Bruno’s home and work space, most devastatingly his spectacular garden of sculpture in the rain forest.

BRUNO'S WORDS:

"The bushfires deeply touched us all in many ways. It allowed me to see that people had a heart for each other, that when things really got dark, the best in us comes out. We have lost a lot, but life also provides us opportunities to gain a new vision, lots of new friends and a blank canvas to play. In the meantime, nature is already regenerating itself. The green is slowly returning and the rivers are flowing, finding new ways".

RE-BUILDING

After 3 very long and hard years, Bruno, with the generous help of many people, has now rebuilt and re-opened his gallery.

Bruno has re-planted 85% of the garden and the native ferns have rebounded very well and the green is slowly returning to the area.

Taking a walk through the garden, being completely spell bound by the sculptures and their life like expressions is such a magical experience. I felf that I could send a wish into the breeze and it would be carried away to be granted.

The enchantment of this place allows you to believe you are part of their world, with unique surprises around every corner.

This is a very unique space, which deserves our patronage and support.

GALLERY

Inside the gallery are Bruno's salvaged precious paintings and sketches. How they survived is a miracle and many of them have a story to tell, one that Bruno enjoys sharing with you when you visit.

Another artist,  Katz Cowley also has her creations on display in the Gallery.

Katz is an illustrator of children's book and a passionate facilitator of creativity workshops, enticing and supporting the deepest creative urges within us all.

I found these words, written by Katz on one of her sketches.

 “Our beautiful scars

Are what make our uniqueness

Sometimes our strength

Is allowing our weakness

We grow from our wounds

Unfold from our pain

In the depths of our loss

There’s something to gain.” Katz Cowley

Looking for a change of scenery on the week-end?

Why not take a gentle drive to Marysville - 1 1/2 hrs from Melbourne and immerse yourself in the magical world of Bruno's garden.

Marysville also has many cute little cafe's to grab and bite to eat, or picnic spots dotted around running streams.

Stevenson Falls has also recently re-opened to the public, picturesque and beautiful - including walking tracks up to the top of the falls where you can dip your feet in to cool off on a hot day.
